Tekken Tag Tournament 2 is finally being released

Over a decade since its arcade release and just shy of a decade after its console release, Tekken Tag Tournament 2 is finally being released. The game that really pushed the Tekken franchise onto a level of unparalleled for a 3d fighting game, Tekken Tag Tournament was simply an incredible game making Tekken fans out of everyone.

Tekken Producer Katsuhiro Harada made the announcement at the Super Battle Opera that Tekken Tag Tournament 2 is real and will be coming out to the arcade next year. In a special interview with Gamepro, Harada gave some details of what to expect in the game:

This game will have the largest roster of any Tekken game yet.

There will be a significant number of returning characters that didn’t make the roster in Tekken 6 or Tekken 6: Bloodline Rebellion.

Like Tekken Tag, this game exists as a side-story to the main Tekken plot.

The developer is making some key tweaks to combat to improve on what Tekken 6 contributed to the fighting game genre. In particular, Harada told us to “watch out for” floating mechanics.
2011 is looking to be THE year for fighting games. To get you ready for Tekken Tag Tournament 2, here’s a teaser video:
